Christmas Hampers
While we live in a land of plenty, we recognize that also in Canada, even in our own backyards there are poor
and needy people. Many of the needy feel their poverty acutely at Christmas time, a customary time of gift-giving
and festivities which they normally cannot participate in like others do.
As Christians who are striving by God
s grace to love our neighbour as ourselves (Matthew 22:39), we try to lend a hand, even in small ways. In order
to help alleviate such difficulty, members of the church assemble food hampers in early December. These are designated
for distribution to several needy families in Aldergrove. Needy families are often met through the volunteer work
at the Aldergrove Food Bank. The hampers of food help to ensure a solid, festive meal and frees other family income
for the purchasing of small gifts for the children.
Volunteer ladies deliver the gift hampers with a smile and use the opportunity to speak about the free gift of
God in sending His Son to die for us sinners the true meaning of Christmas! While the food and fun of the
Christmas Season
are soon gone, the joy of believing in Christ as Saviour lasts a life-time, even an eternity. We continue to hope
and pray that many people in Aldergrove will come to embrace the Lord Jesus by faith and so receive the gift of
eternal life with God. |
