Reformed Churches - Theological College
In the first chapter of his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul spoke about his
eagerness to preach the gospel. He wrote "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for
the salvation of everyone who believes." Later, he confirmed in chapter 10 the awesome importance of the preaching
of the gospel. He would quote the familiar words, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
In the preaching, the Holy Spirit himself lays the very words of God on the heart of the listener, creating and
strengthening a faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
It is understood that the preaching is indispensable to the gathering, defending and preserving of Christ's church.
It is understood that there must be preachers who can bring the gospel.
It is in this light that we see the glorious task of our Theological College. It is an institution set up and maintained
by our churches for the purpose of training men for the ministry of the Word. It has been doing this in an excellent
fashion for more than three decades.
The men who come to our college already have good qualifications. They have demonstrated in their own life a close
walk with the Lord and the desire to serve Him in a special capacity as a minister of the Word. Moreover, they
have a university education where they have gained a certain mastery of the biblical languages, English, philosophy,
history and other disciplines as well.
With this firm foundation in place, they will spend another four years at our College. With God's blessing and
under the tutelage of our capable professors, they are prepared for the ministry of the Word. They will be prepared
to accept a call to one of the vacant churches or go to the mission field. What a beautiful task: to serve the
Lord by bringing the gospel to those who will hear.
There have been some changes at our college in connection with the professors. Retired from the Senate is Prof.
Dr. J. Faber who is one of the "originals" of our College. Retired from the chair of the New Testament
Studies is Prof. J. Geertsema, although he still remains active in the Senate. His successor is Prof. G.H. Visscher.
We thank God that He has blessed and continues to bless our College with faithful, capable men who are able to
train our students. The Lord has laid upon our professors a tremendous responsibility, but He has also granted
them the gifts to fulfill it. May the Lord continue to bless the work at our College for his glory and the salvation
of his people.
